The bladesmithing world lost a titan on January 17, 2026, with the passing of Ed Fowler. A master craftsman, prolific author, and dedicated mentor, Fowler wasn’t just a knifemaker; he was a foundational pillar of the modern custom knife movement.
Ed was a long-standing member of AKTI and a staunch supporter of our “Stronger Together” mantra.
“AKTI is the one organization that works in partnership with the American people and the knife industry,” he said in 2023. “When they tackle an issue, it’s always as a group.”
A former police officer, Ed was based in Riverton, Wyoming, since the 1970s. He began making knives in the early 1980s and hand-forged a limited annual run prized for their rugged utility. His life blended ranching and writing with a singular philosophy: a knife is a tool meant for hard use and constant refinement.
