Kentucky state law would preempt local laws and remove undefined “any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife” from deadly weapons list.

Bill adds knives to existing law about firearms to keep cities, counties and municipalities from making more restrictive laws regarding knives.

Dagger, bowie knife, dirk knife, and sword cane would be removed from the list of unlawful items to carry on or about a person, in a purse or other container belonging to the person, whether concealed or unconcealed.

Knives would be added to existing firearms preemption law that prevents any county, municipality or political subdivision from regulating knives.

Bill would make auto-open knives legal to manufacture, sell, own, carry and possess.
