Intellectual Property Seminar Explained Ins and Outs to Knife Industry Members

August 6, 2016

American Knife & Tool Institute Provided Educational Session at the 2016 BLADE Show

At the recent BLADE Show in Atlanta, members of the American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) and others in the knife community learned about establishing their legal rights, avoiding problems and protecting their intellectual property at the “The Ins & Outs of Intellectual Property” seminar presented jointly by Continental Enterprises and AKTI.

Jeremiah Pastrick, Vice President and Senior Legal Counsel of Continental Enterprises, discussed types of intellectual property, how to establish and protect your rights and different enforcement strategies.

“Providing information to help businesses in the knife community be successful is an important part of the American Knife & Tool Institute’s efforts,” said Jan Billeb, AKTI Executive Director, “We were pleased to partner with Continental Enterprises to offer this educational opportunity for our members and others. Protecting intellectual property is key to dealing with the prevalent counterfeit issues in today’s world.”

Attendees learned about copyrighting, applying for patents and the importance of documenting ideas. The Blade Show 2016 Presentation is available and includes valuable resources.

In commenting on the important work that AKTI and Continental are spearheading, Mr. Pastrick noted that “intellectual property (IP) can be one of the single most value assets that any business possesses. Understanding how to develop and protect your IP – as well as how to avoid infringing upon others’ – is an essential part of running a successful business.”

As Vice President of Continental Enterprises, Jeremiah Pastrick manages all aspects of the strategies that Continental creates and implements to protect their clients’ intellectual property around the globe. This includes consulting with clients on objectives and tactics, developing action plans with Continental’s teams of intellectual property protection professionals and tracking the results and effectiveness of Continental’s programs.

Mr. Pastrick received a B.S. in Public Management from Indiana University and his juris doctorate from Indiana University School of Law. His legal studies focused on intellectual property, international commercial law, corporate law and human rights law. He is admitted to practice law in Indiana and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association.  For more information, visit Continental Enterprises at www.ce-ip.com.
