AKTI Launches Online Auction to Raise Funds for Legislative Efforts

July 29, 2011

CODY, WY. (July 29, 2011) – The American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI) announces that August 1st is the launch date of AKTI’s new monthly online knife auction to raise money for its Legislative Fund to continue AKTI’s effective state by state efforts to change restrictive knife laws.

“The launch of AKTI’s new monthly knife auction is an excellent way for our supporters to make donations that can be turned into real dollars for our Legislative Fund,” noted AKTI Executive Director Jan Billeb, adding “and someone will have a new knife to enjoy!”

Buck Knives generously donated the first knife – a Buck Model 119 Special, one of Buck’s most popular knives, to kick start the auction. Each auction will begin on the first day of the month and end on the last day.

Continuing AKTI’s proven state by state approach to support and change knife laws that assure Americans the right to own and use the knife of their choice is costly. With successes in California, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas and others, millions of individuals have been protected from being considered criminals because of laws they may not be aware of and violate by carrying a knife that had been their grandfather’s or a tool they use everyday. The organization will continue to efficiently and effectively use members’ dollars and contributions to be proactive as well as reactive to laws that limit knife ownership and use.

Billeb reported that “While only 3 states are still in legislative session this year, AKTI is working behind the scenes in several states including New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and others to determine what changes to their knife laws could possibly be introduced during the next legislative session. We have a lot to do and it all takes time and money.”

See akti.org/auction for more details on the Buck knife and how to submit a bid.

Bidders can review the auction and place bids online. The winning bid at 11:59 p.m ET on August 31 will be the winner of the first auction.
