DPX Gear Celebrates 10 Years of Flagship Knife

June 2, 2020

Robert Young Pelton is known for working in and surviving the world’s wars. Whether it is Libya, South Sudan or Afghanistan, his designs for DPx Gear are the direct result of his hard won experience. The constant use, testing, upgrading and real world punishment of his designs have resulted in the third generation of the famous DPx Gear HEST/F (“Hostile Environment Survival Tool/Folding”) knife, now ten years old.

The DNA of the DPx HEST/F stems from Pelton’s first patented knife design, the DPx HEST Original fixed blade, a knife that mirrors his design philosophy of making reliable tools that are tough, practical, reliable and multi-use. “We retained the time proven ergonomics and function of the DPx HEST/F and made it stronger,” says Pelton of the new Ti DECADE. “I also wanted the frame and blade over-engineered and over-built.”

The Ti DECADE is a limited unit run made by LionSTEEL in Maniago, Italy, an award winning company that puts up with the constant perfection designer Robert Young Pelton demands. Upgrades to the knife include sourcing one of the most durable blade steels, M390; hollowing out the 6Al-4v grade 5 titanium handle scale for added strength without increasing weight; removing the RotoBlock but adding a 440 stainless steel insert to the lock bar for increased lock security; and adding IKBS bearings to the pivot screw for smoother opening.

The Ti DECADE retains the classic DPx HEST/F features such as 6Al-4V Grade 5 titanium alloy frame lock, tungsten carbide insert glass breaker with hex base and flat head replacement screw, 1/4″ hex socket driver/lanyard hole in frame of the knife, wire strippers jimping, thumb grip/bottle opener on blade.

The ultimate in elegant strength and the perfect way to celebrate ten years of the DPx HEST/F. First 100 serialized units are available for purchase for the first two weeks of its release.  Learn more at www.dpxgear.com.
