American Knife & Tool Institute Gives Knife Presentation to Summit of State Legislators

January 10, 2016

State Legislators Gathered in Vermont Hear Presentation by CJ Buck, President of the American Knife & Tool Institute, About Knife Issues and Knife Laws

Buck presentation 2015 NASC SummitCJ Buck, CEO of Buck Knives based in Idaho, and president of the American Knife & Tool Institute (AKTI), recently presented legislators with valuable information on knife laws that affect sportsmen and women.

Legislators from 30 state legislative sportsmen’s caucuses and nearly 200 attendees met in Manchester, Vermont the end of October for the 12th Annual National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) Sportsman-Legislator Summit to reflect on current issues related to hunting, angling, and fish and wildlife conservation. This broad network of state legislative sportsmen’s caucus was created in 2004 by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation to provide policy and political advice on issues relevant to sportsmen.

“AKTI supports the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) and their work with Congress, governors and state legislators to protect and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting and trapping,” said Buck. “Knives are an important fundamental tool for everyone involved in those activities.”

Buck explained to legislators how the American Knife & Tool Institute can partner with them to create reasonable and responsible knife laws that benefit their constituents.  He shared recent legislative successes in states that have eliminated knife possession prohibitions based on blade lengths or type of knife mechanism or enacted protection from local laws that are more restrictive than state law.

“Laws that are ambiguous or use terms that are not defined cause problems for everyone,” said Buck.  “Common sense laws help the legislator, law enforcement, judiciary, knife manufacturer, retailer and end user.”

The American Knife & Tool Institute provides credible information to legislators on the knife industry’s value to the economy and jobs, the importance of knives as tools to outdoor activities, work and normal daily tasks. AKTI offers valuable assistance in drafting reasonable and responsible knife laws and help legislators with data, letters of support and witnesses during the legislative process.
