Proceeds fund advocacy at the state and federal level
The American Knife and Tool Institute (AKTI) is gearing up for its annual fundraiser – the Free to Carry online auction being held August 2-5, 2024. The Free to Carry Auction is your chance to buy a variety of knives, tools, and other collectibles. Bid on one-of-a-kind custom knives from top makers or snag production models from your favorite brands. The selection doesn’t stop at knives – you’ll also find outdoor gear, vacation getaways, and other exciting items.
“Our annual Free to Carry event is AKTI’s most vital fundraiser,” said CJ Buck, CEO of Buck Knives and president of AKTI. “By participating, you’re not just getting great deals, you’re helping AKTI fund its advocacy efforts for reasonable knife laws and to help educate the public about the safe and responsible use of knives.”
AKTI is working at the federal level to pass legislation that would streamline knife-carrying laws across state lines, eliminating the confusing patchwork of regulations citizens currently face. AKTI and its members advocated in Delaware for a bill allowing the sale and ownership of automatic knives, which was recently introduced.
“Several issues are bubbling to the surface that, if enacted, will be advantageous to knife owners,” said Buck. “We’re close to making significant gains, but we must keep our foot on the gas. That, of course, takes both effort and money.”
Companies, collectors, or custom knifemakers interested in donating items for the Free to Carry 2024 auction are encouraged to contact Jan Billeb at akti@akti.org
The Free to Carry Auction is partly supported by AKTI’s 2024 Contributing Sponsors: American Outdoor Brands, Buck Knives, Boker, CRKT, GSM Outdoors, and Lansky Sharpeners.
