A.G. Russell™ Sowbelly Trapper with Cocobolo

Winning Bid: $60.00

Item condition: New

Description

The Sowbelly pattern handle, like the Dogleg, is smaller at the blade end and somewhat serpentine in shape. Notice the curve to the bolster, allowing a very natural line for the open blade. Also notice the huge Wharncliffe blade that appears to be too long to fit in the handle. The addition of a stop pin that keeps the blades from ever meeting the back spring, allows us to make blades that are wider than those in knives by other designers.

The manufacturing is remarkable, the best we can find anywhere in the world for this type of knife. An example of the fine workmanship is the finish on the inside of the knife which is comparable to the high quality, high price semi-production knives being made today. Before putting this knife into production, the prototypes were mechanically opened and closed over 300,000 times. I do not want my customers to ever have to put up with a broken spring.

This is a 4-1/4″ closed two blade slipjoint folder with a 3/32″ thick blades of 8Cr13MoV at 57-58 Rc. The clip blade is 3-3/8″ long and 1″ wide. The Wharncliffe blade is 3-1/2″ long and 7/8″ wide. Both are flat ground. The liners, bolster, caps and the federal shield are all 400 series stainless steel. Includes a handsome brown braided thong for lifting the knife from the pocket.

The handle is made from premium Cocobolo wood. This handsome material has been the premium knife handle wood for over 200 years. Weighs 5.7 oz.
